Hi, and welcome to my blog on everything photography and illustration. I’m a New Yorker, and I love photography and design. As an artist, I specialize in Stock, Fine Art Photography as well as some illustration and design. I’ve had a life long passion for photography and design, but my life didn’t bring me to a place where I could pursue them until recently. I never went to design school or photography school, but am completely self taught in photography, Photoshop, Illustrator and even a tiny bit of Flash.
The internet and the digital camera have made it much easier and affordable for beginning photographers to learn how to capture stunning images — while not costing a lot because there is no film involved. Film photographers however, have a very valid argument when they point out that photographers who work with film, some of who still produce stunning work, believe that because you can’t take as many pictures as you can with a digital due to cost, film photographers don’t shoot randomly, but are forced to think about every shot before they release the shutter. Not a bad habit to stay in.
Back in the 90′s, I had my own business, “Beck Designs”. I would design flyers, brochures, menus, anything that needed to be designed on hard copy and printed. At that time when computers would normally have 56k of ram, I would run Pagemaker and Corel Draw at what was considered very fast speeds then, which would be excruciating slow speeds today. The amount of technology that we have seen since 1990 is astounding. And from what I understand, Holograms will replace 3D in a very short amount of time. I hope I’m around for it all!
When I received my first digital, the Canon Rebel XSI, I became obsessed with photography. I would take pictures of anything! I can’t tell you how many pictures I have on my hard drive, and yes backed up! I’m completely hooked. I love Photoshop and Illustrator and intrigued with Dreamweaver, Flash and CSS. I’m very anxious to see what the future holds in the world of design and what software and abilities lie ahead and how it will change the way artists work.
I hope you like my work and I hope you like my website. My work now seems to include a lot of architecture, food, color, boldness and sometimes a little drama. I have a big fantasy of being a famous food photographer. Having a big loft with a chef’s kitchen and just cook, shoot and eat all day. That would be fun! I also love architecture and living in New York City, there is such a wide variety that offers endless opportunities to photographers.
The intention behind my website is to display my work, share my ideas and to share the images and ideas of others that somehow either directly or indirectly have had an impact on me. In my own quest for more knowledge whether it be on Photography and lighting or using Illustrator or Photoshop, I have received invaluable information from fellow bloggers that’s helped me out many times. I’d like this blog to serve as a resource for others seeking knowledge about their craft and hope that they can take something away from it. If you have a tutorial or something you’d like to share, just let me know and I’ll do my best to add it. All articles on my blog won’t be written by me, but will sometimes be excerpts of other bloggers articles that I find helpful and would be useful to others. I will always give credit and a direct link back to their article.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you found something useful while you were here, enjoyed my work and please, come over and connect with me on Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.
